Hello Beautiful Actionists®,

One of the greatest perks of my career is that I get to meet inspiring authors and read fabulous books! So I thought I'd shake up our May Newsletter this month and feature four wonderful books that have brought me much joy and insight. They are just in time for our summer reading lists and offer great reads for kids, adults (and everyone in between!)

"Get Lucky" By Katherine Center.  Katherine is one of my new favorite fiction authors and an Actionist® in her every day life. Her latest book is rich, compelling, and the perfect beach read.  In "Get Lucky", follow Sarah as she journeys through losing her job, starting her life over oh...and carrying her sister's baby!

"I Thought It Was Just Me" By Brene Brown. Brene is a brilliant writer, teacher, and Actionist®whose research and work primarily circles around women and shame. In her latest book, she teaches us to break down the walls of perfectionism and learn to embrace our flaws so that we can live a whole-hearted life!

"Picture Day And The Missing Tooth" By Sue Ridolfi. Sue has written one of my new favorite children's books! The character of Abby is spunky, silly and shows us that life is a great big adventure waiting to be explored!

"Where Is Love" By Laura Nadler Scott. Laura introduces us to the main character Leni Lovebird, who discovers that love is where you find it, not where others tell you to find it. A beautiful book in time for Mother's Day, too!

And because we love freebies (who doesn't?) We are doing a Special Giveaway for one copy of each book this month!  Take action and be the FIRST to email us with the title of the book you want in the subject line and we will send you an autographed copy!  Email info@jessweiner.com

All of our recommended books share a common theme of exploring love and self-acceptance and how our imperfections don't have to equal feelings of inadequacy.

We hope these picks help you continue to discover the beautiful you waiting to emerge.

Yours in Action,

"Get Lucky"

How do you change your luck? Katherine Center's marvelously entertaining and poignant new novel is about choosing to look for happiness-and maybe getting lucky enough to find it.
Sarah goes home to Houston-and her sister, Mackie-for Thanksgiving. But before Sarah can share her troubles with her sister, she learns that Mackie has some woes of her own: After years of trying, Mackie's given up on having a baby-and plans to sell on eBay the entire nursery she's set up. Which gives Sarah a brilliant idea-an idea that could fix everyone's problems. An idea that gives Sarah the chance to take care of her big sister for once-instead of the other way around.

But nothing worthwhile is ever easy. After a decade away, Sarah is forced to confront one ghost from her past after another: the father she's lost touch with, the memories of her mother, the sweet guy she dumped horribly in high school. Soon everything that matters is on the line-and Sarah can only hope that by changing her life she has changed her luck, too.

"Picture Day And
The Missing Tooth"

"Self-esteem develops very early in youth.  The building blocks need to be set in motion when little girls are young so they can learn the invaluable lesson of self-worth. The seriesAbby's Adventures uses the phrase "It's Okay to Be Me!!" as a tool to help build a young girl's self-esteem.  By creating a very likable little girl who is not perfect, we are able to share stories of triumph over self-doubt and image comparisons.

Abby is learning to embrace her own differences while learning valuable lessons about what it means to love and accept yourself for being who you are as an individual. It is our goal to help change the world one little girl at a time.

"Picture Day" is the first in the Abby's Adventures series, with "Dance Recital ... and the Case of Ballerina-itis" out now and "Earth Day ... and the Recycling Fashionista," "Freckle Face ... and the Drama Queen," and others forthcoming.

"I Thought It Was Just Me"

By: Brene Brown, Ph.D. LMSW

The pursuit of perfection is exhausting and unrelenting. We spend too much precious time and energy managing perception and creating carefully edited version of ourselves to show the world. As hard as we try, we can't seem to turn off the tapes that fill our heads with messages like, "Never good enough!" and, "What will people think?"
Why? What fuels this unattainable need to look like we always have it all together? At first glance we might think it's because we admire perfection, but that's not the case. We are actually the most attracted to people we consider to be authentic and down-to-earth. We love people who are "real" - we're drawn to those who embrace their imperfections and radiate self-acceptance.
Based on seven years of groundbreaking research and hundreds of interviews,
I Thought It Was Just Me shines a long-overdue light on an important truth:  Our imperfections are what connect us to each other and to our humanity. Our vulnerabilities are not weaknesses; they are precious reminders to keep our hearts and minds open to the idea that we're all in this together.
