"Much of what you will read in this book is deeply personal. Some of it has only been shared with family and close friends. As I write this, I am finding that what I thought would be a simple, “Hey listen to this, I have something to say” has turned into an examination of my life and forced me to ask, “Am I good enough? Am I a Good Man?”
This is really not a book, but rather a collection of experiences, thoughts and ideas cobbled together in no particular way, especially focused on life and my experiences and my continual push forward.
The editors who read this writing described it as a “memoir, personal journal and life advice book.” It may be all of these things, or something else.
While I may care about these stories, thoughts and ideas and find them valuable, I don’t know if you will. You will decide if they resonate with you. You are the one who decides if reading this is valuable. For me, I must trust the reader and believe this is valuable.
I have read everything by Eckhart Tolle, JK Zinn, Thich Nhat Hahn, Anthony De Mello, James Baldwin, Pema Chodron, Ryan Holiday, Ta’nehisi Coates, Red Cloud, Humble the Poet, Viktor Frankl, Khalil Gibran, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Plato...the list goes on and on.
Through this reading and continual reflection, I have reached the conclusion that life is meant to be celebrated, not mourned; to be seized, not to float aimlessly within; to add value, not to take; to do good, not to harm; to own our actions, not to deflect; to drive, not be driven.
So, I offer you my thoughts on life; take them for what they are worth. Perhaps you may find a few nuggets of wisdom, or perhaps you may find yourself wondering why you are reading it at all and hoping you can get your money back?
In either case, I declare victory, because my goal is to make you think, challenge, wonder, say “hmmmm”, laugh, cry, relate, reject. To feel, not simply exist. I do not pretend to have all the answers to the challenges life throws at us but I do have life experiences and perhaps you can take from those."
